Shoreview School of Music
Lesson Membership Agreement
Effective Date: August 1st, 2026 This Lesson Membership Agreement ("Agreement") applies to lesson memberships provided by Stanbrough Thompson LLC, doing business as Shoreview School of Music ("School"). By enrolling in a lesson membership, the student, or the student's parent or legal guardian if the student is under 18 ("Member"), agrees to the following terms.
1. Membership
Lesson memberships are month-to-month with no minimum commitment. Membership continues automatically each month until canceled by the Member or terminated by the School in accordance with this Agreement. Your specific monthly membership rate will be disclosed at enrollment and may vary based on lesson length, frequency, discounts, or other arrangements. Standard lesson memberships generally include either: One 30-minute private lesson each week, or One 60-minute private lesson every other week. Membership reserves a recurring lesson time with the School.
2. Monthly Tuition
Monthly tuition is a flat membership rate based on an annualized lesson schedule and is not calculated based on the exact number of lessons occurring in a particular calendar month. As a result, some months may include more scheduled lessons than others. The monthly membership rate remains the same. Books, instruments, accessories, reeds, strings, supplies, and other retail purchases are not included in membership tuition unless specifically stated otherwise. Recitals and standard performance opportunities offered by the School are included in membership at no additional recital fee unless otherwise communicated in advance.
3. Automatic Payments
Membership tuition is due on the first day of each month for lessons during that same month. By enrolling, the Member authorizes Shoreview School of Music to automatically charge the credit card, debit card, ACH account, or other approved payment method on file for the applicable monthly membership rate and any other amounts authorized under this Agreement. This authorization continues until the membership is canceled. Members may update payment information through the Student Portal or by contacting the School. If an automatic payment fails, the School may retry the payment method on file. The Member will have seven days to bring the account current. If payment remains unpaid after seven days, a late fee equal to 5% of the outstanding balance may be charged. Lessons may be suspended until the account is brought current.
4. Cancellation
Memberships may be canceled at any time. To avoid being charged for the next month, cancellation must be received at least seven days before the next monthly billing date. For example, because memberships are normally billed on the first of each month, cancellation generally must be received at least seven days before the first to avoid the next month's charge. If cancellation is received after the seven-day deadline, the next monthly payment will be processed and membership will continue through that paid month.
Cancellation may be submitted:
Through the online cancellation option available through the School's website or Student Portal
By email at hello@shoreviewmusic.com
By calling 651-760-0186
Membership payments are nonrefundable once the applicable billing cycle has begun, except where otherwise required by law. There is no cancellation or termination fee.
5. Membership Pauses
Members may request to pause a membership for up to six months. A pause does not guarantee that the student's current instructor, day, time, or recurring lesson slot will remain available. When returning from a pause, the School will work with the student to identify an available instructor and lesson time.
6. Student Absences and Make-Up Credits
Students who provide at least 24 hours' notice before a scheduled lesson will receive a make-up credit. Make-up credits must be used within 60 days of issuance and are subject to instructor and scheduling availability. Absences with less than 24 hours' notice, including no-call/no-show absences, are not eligible for a refund or make-up credit. Unused or expired make-up credits have no cash value and are not refundable.
7. Instructor Absences
If an instructor is unable to teach a scheduled lesson, the School will make reasonable efforts to provide a qualified substitute instructor. If a substitute cannot be provided, the student will receive a make-up credit. The School may substitute instructors when necessary.
8. Weather and School Closures
If the School cancels in-person lessons because of severe weather or other unsafe conditions, affected students will receive a make-up credit unless the scheduled instructor provides the lesson online. The School may move lessons online when appropriate during inclement weather. The School generally does not hold regular lessons during the week between Christmas and New Year's Day. The annualized monthly membership rate accounts for variations in the lesson calendar. When applicable, the School may issue make-up credits for School-initiated closures.
9. Scheduling and Instructors
While membership remains active, the School will generally reserve the student's recurring lesson time. Students may request changes to their lesson time or instructor. Changes are subject to availability. The School may change or substitute instructors when reasonably necessary. If an instructor leaves the School or becomes unavailable, the School will make reasonable efforts to provide another instructor. If the School cannot provide an appropriate replacement, the School may cancel the membership and refund any prepaid tuition attributable to lessons the School cannot provide.
10. Rate Changes
The School may change membership rates from time to time. Members will receive at least 30 days' notice before a new membership rate takes effect. The notice will identify the new rate and provide instructions for canceling the membership if the Member does not wish to continue at the new rate. Continuing the membership after the effective date of the new rate authorizes the School to charge the new recurring rate to the payment method on file.
11. Student Conduct
Students and guests are expected to treat instructors, staff, other students, visitors, School property, and neighboring businesses respectfully. The School may suspend or terminate lessons for behavior that is unsafe, threatening, abusive, seriously disruptive, or repeatedly interferes with instruction or School operations. The School may require a parent or guardian to remain on site when reasonably necessary based on a child's age, needs, or behavior.
12. Children and Supervision
Parents and guardians remain responsible for their children before and after scheduled lesson times. The School and its instructors are responsible for providing instruction during scheduled lessons but do not provide general childcare or supervision outside the student's scheduled lesson. Young children may be required to have a parent or responsible adult remain on the premises.
13. School Property
Students and guests are expected to use School instruments, equipment, furniture, facilities, and other property appropriately. The Member may be responsible for the reasonable cost of repairing or replacing School property intentionally damaged or damaged through reckless or improper use by the student or the Member's guests.
14. Personal Property
Students and guests are responsible for their own instruments, equipment, clothing, electronics, and other personal belongings. The School is not responsible for lost, misplaced, stolen, or damaged personal property except to the extent responsibility cannot legally be excluded.
15. Communications
Official lesson-related communications may be sent through the My Music Staff Student Portal, email, telephone, or text message. Whenever practical, communications between instructors and students concerning scheduling, lessons, and School activities should occur through School-approved communication channels, including the Student Portal. For students under 18, parents or guardians should be included in direct communications when appropriate.
16. Emergency Situations
Parents and guardians are responsible for keeping their contact and emergency information current. If a student experiences a medical or other emergency and the School cannot promptly reach the parent, guardian, or emergency contact, the School may contact emergency services when reasonably necessary. The Member remains responsible for any costs associated with emergency medical care or transportation.
17. Photography and Video
Shoreview School of Music may photograph or record School activities, lessons, recitals, events, or performances. Permission for the School to use identifiable photographs or recordings of a student for advertising, social media, websites, promotional materials, or other marketing purposes will be handled through a separate photo and media consent. Declining marketing photo or video consent will not affect a student's eligibility for lessons.
18. Security Cameras
For safety, security, and property protection, the School may use video security cameras in common areas of its premises. Security cameras are not intended for use in private areas where a person would reasonably expect privacy. Security footage is not used as a substitute for the separate marketing consent described above.
19. Parent or Guardian Responsibility
When the student is under 18, the parent or legal guardian enrolling the student is the Member under this Agreement and is responsible for: Payment of all membership charges, Attendance and cancellation notices, Maintaining accurate contact and payment information, The student's compliance with School policies, and Communications concerning the student's membership
20. School Cancellation
The School may terminate a membership if it can no longer reasonably provide the agreed lesson service, including because an appropriate instructor is unavailable or the School ceases operations. The School may also suspend or terminate a membership for nonpayment or serious or repeated violations of School policies. If the School permanently terminates a prepaid membership for reasons unrelated to the Member's conduct or payment obligations, the School will refund any prepaid tuition attributable to lessons the School cannot provide.
21. Changes to Membership Terms
The School may update these policies when reasonably necessary. If a change materially affects the terms of the recurring membership, the School will provide notice before the change takes effect, including information about how to cancel the membership.
22. Governing Law
This Agreement is governed by the laws of the State of Minnesota. If any provision of this Agreement is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue to apply to the extent permitted by law. Nothing in this Agreement limits any consumer right that cannot legally be waived.
23. Agreement and Automatic Payment Authorization
By enrolling, the Member acknowledges and agrees that: The membership is month-to-month with no minimum commitment. The membership continues until canceled. The disclosed monthly membership rate will automatically be charged to the payment method on file. Payment is normally processed on the first of each month for that month's lessons. The membership rate may change with at least 30 days' advance notice. Cancellation must be received at least seven days before the next billing date to avoid the next monthly charge. The Member authorizes Shoreview School of Music to automatically charge the payment method on file as described in this Agreement. The Member has reviewed and agrees to this Lesson Membership Agreement.
